Exsel Group, a leading independent defence technology solutions company, has pledged its support to members of the Armed Forces and their families by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

Exsel Group provides engineering solutions, technology systems and support services to Defence and Industry where reliability, safety and protection are paramount.

The Covenant was co-signed by Major General Ben Bathurst, General Officer Commanding London District, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, in a ceremony at Lincoln’s Inn Army Reserve Centre, London.

Following the signing, the London Ballet Company gave a moving performance of a specially adapted WW1 piece, entitled Poppy.

Jamie Marmant, Director of Exsel Group, said: “Signing the Armed Forces Covenant simply confirmed an ethos, practice and conviction we have all had since the incorporation of our company. The words of the Covenant resonate loudly with us all.”

Exsel Group also financially supports The Explora Foundation, which was established in 2011, to provide academic scholarship support to the dependents of members of the UK Armed Forces and Security Services who have lost their lives, become seriously injured or permanently disabled in the service of their country. The Foundation aims to develop and extend the knowledge and practice of physical protection to reduce the risks to those in government service in the future as well.

One recipient of an Explora Foundation scholarship, who attended the event, is Captain Dave Henson, ex-Royal Engineers. Dave is currently studying for a PhD in Bioengineering at the Imperial College London.

Dave said: "It is fantastic to see the values and standards of our Armed Forces echoed and respected in industry through this public signing of the covenant; a public recognition of the inherent transferable skills and wealth of knowledge held in the personnel of our military.”
